Three!

My first baby turned three years old yesterday! He is getting so big…I just want to freeze him. I’m trying to soak in all the things I love about this fun age.

In honor of James, here is a list of some of the things I love about him right now:

He is getting more and more independent (actually a love/hate, because it can take a long time to get anything done when he constantly insists “I do it myself!”).

He is getting smarter–I love that I can explain things to him now and he will usually understand, on some level…awe…reasoning.

He loves to say “To finity (infinity) and beyond!” when jumping off/on the couch (which he is not supposed to do).

I love that when I tell him not to jump on the couch he says “I’m not jumping, I’m falling with style!”

The way he makes his toys have conversations. Some of the funniest things I’ve ever heard and seen. Example: He had one of his “Thomas” engines (that has a face) talking to the disconnected train car (with no face); this was the conversation: Train car: “Can I bite your face off?” Engine: “No! You can’t bite my face off!” train car: “Oh, okay. Let’s go!” What the??? I hope he never says that to anyone :) .

When he gets so excited and talks in an extremely high voice and fumbles over his words.

When he says: “Oh no!” often followed by “that’s not good.”

His prayers…they can be so random.

He LOVES his daddy. They have the cutest relationship.

I love that I can still see my little baby in him. One day he’s going to be a man and those glimpses of the baby he used to be won’t be there anymore…sad thought. :(

Andrew and I were finally able to officially celebrate our five-year anniversary. We seem to frequently celebrate it in February because December is just a crazy month. We went down to Las Vegas a week and a half ago and spent two nights there. It was a little stressful to leave James because I didn’t want him to regress with potty training, but he did really well (just a couple accidents and none since). It was also so nice to have a whole weekend with Andrew! It has been a really long time since we’ve had that much time together.

We arrived Friday afternoon. Our first date was dinner and a movie. We went to The Cheesecake Factory for dinner and played some arcades while we waited for our late movie to start.

Us after our yummy meal!

The next morning, I got locked in the bathroom for about forty-five minutes after taking my shower. We had to have a maintenance guy come and break the knob off. I only had a teeny tiny towel–with my bulging belly–with which to cover myself, so I stood in the shower behind the curtain until he was done. Oh fun. We only stayed there because of their “buy one night, get one night free” deal…it’s a good thing it was cheap.

Luckily it was a very large bathroom, so I had no chance of getting claustrophobic. This is only half of it.

After that ordeal was over, we went to the Hoover Dam. Fun to see once. I don’t think we’ll ever go again.

Looking down.

A new bridge being built.

That night we went to “The Phantom of the Opera”; I LOVED it! It was my first time seeing it, besides the movie. Andrew got us front-row seats, and we were so close we could see the spit flying from of the actors’ mouths. Probably more than we wanted to see, but it was cool that we were that close.

And…last week I went to lunch at Pirate Island Pizza with my best girlfriends and their cute kids! We went to celebrate Chelsea’s birthday. I love these girls and really need to see them more often!

Happy Birthday Chels!

James is TWO!!!

July 15th was his birthday. I can’t believe it’s been two years since he joined our little family, but I also can’t really remember life without him. We took him to The Kangaroo Zoo with his best friends, and cousins, Lily and Owen (“owey, Wiwwy”) as James says. We’re not sure if he knows they have separate names yet; he always says their names together. James is obsessed with jumping and is constantly testing his limits of what he can jump on and off of, so a place full of places to jump and slide was perfect for him. We came back home to and sing and open presents. He was so tired by the time he opened his gifts around 9. The poor guy had to go to bed about fifteen minutes later, but was a happy boy in the morning when he saw that he still had his new toys.

The boy is still obsessed with cars…and that was definitely the theme of his presents.

Not as new, but still exciting: James got his first haircut last month! I held onto his baby hair for as long as I could, only giving him a few small trims from the time he was born. Something needed to be done. I let Andrew do the honors…

His new hair! This is James a few days after the cut. You can tell from his birthday pictures that it has already grown quite a bit.

Other news…

We bought a townhouse at the beginning of June! We are so excited to have our own place! It’s still being built so here are some pictures showing the progress that has been made since June.

It’s fun for me to see the progress. I didn’t post any pictures of the two other bedrooms or bathrooms because I was trying to make this short-ish (kinda too late for that). We’re so close!

Just Jumpin’

For Krista’s birthday earlier this month we went as a family to a place called Jump On It. I’d never been there before. For those of you not familiar with it, it’s basically just a bunch of trampolines for adults and teens and blown up slides and things for kids. James LOVED it; I think Andrew did too… I did until I realized that jumping on a trampoline is not as much fun after having a baby. I won’t elaborate, but I’m sure many of you can imagine…or know exactly what I mean. ;)

Andrew would probably be embarrassed if he knew I was doing this. Actually, he’s not easily embarrassed–as you can tell from those itty bitty, hot-pink shorts he’s wearing :) . I just had to share some of my favorite pictures of him growing up.  He’s just too cute. Happy 26th Honey!
