A couple weeks ago we went backpacking (sans James) in the Uintahs to Ruth Lake. We went with our good friends, and neighbors, the Rawcliffes. It was just the right kind of backpacking trip for me–mostly flat and less than a mile long
. It was my second time being to Ruth Lake and a much better experience this time; the first time I went was three years ago and we spent the majority of our time hiding under a mosquito net trying not to get eaten alive. I’m happy to say we didn’t even need a mosquito net this time because the weather was cold enough that most of them had already died. We only went for one night, which I’m happy about for a few reasons: 1) I missed James, 2) no bathrooms, 3) no running water, and I’ll say it again, no bathrooms. Here are some pictures we took:

We walked around the lake after setting up our tents and took pictures with the pretty flowers.

Sunset

Sunrise on the lake.

Andrew and me standing on top of Boulder Rock; that’s not really the name; it’s not cool enough to have a name, really; Andrew and his friends named it when they came to Ruth Lake in high school.

Andrew and Thomas on the same rock.
There is supposed to be a picture of Bethany and me right here, but I guess I didn’t get one with my camera, so could I get that Bethany?
.

The rock I sat on to take a rest ended up being such a perfect spot for a picture of me and the lake.

Snow! Yes, I know…how romantic that Andrew loves me so much that he had to carve it into the snow. It would be much more romantic if Andrew had actually written it. It was me.

A Mountain Goat! The only sign of wildlife we saw besides some bats–ewe.

Thomas and Andrew standing on top of a tree that somehow (we don’t know how) fell over as we were walking by.

Backpacking out of camp. Goodbye Ruth Lake!
