Nov 20

We finally went on a family trip at the beginning of this month! It was only three days long, but it was still fun! We stayed in a hotel (which was nice for many reasons) primarily because we’re not quite ready to take James camping, and it was freezing cold; two very good reasons, I think. And I’m all for running water!

We went to Arches while we were there. However, we weren’t able to do any real hiking because James didn’t care for riding in his backpack. He wanted to run and play in the dirt as all boys do, so we just hiked to viewpoints, which are really more like leisurely walks. We were able to get some good pictures though. Here are a handful. Enjoy.

Settling into our room after arriving in Moab. You can see James is holding one of my shoes. He has a shoe fetish right now. If our closet door is ever left open, he has to go get a shoe. He even puts them on and walks around (tries to anyway). It’s pretty funny.

A better shot of James.

We ate at the picnic area on Saturday. James was just excited about all the room he had to play with his stroller. He loves anything with wheels.

Andrew and James with an arch.

Delicate Arch…if you can see it. This is from the viewpoint.

I like the clouds in this picture.

This is one of Andrew’s favorite pictures that he took.

On our way home on Sunday we stopped by Dead Horse Point because I had never been there.

My cute boys.

I’ve been horrible about updating the blog, and I haven’t had a good excuse until now. James became very sick last Saturday night. Thankfully, he is recovering and actually eating food now, though he loses it every once in a while (TMI?). Monday was the worst day. I’ve never seen a child so sick–probably because I’ve never been a mom before–but it was so heartbreaking to watch him lie on the floor unable to move, except to move from room to room, hoping to find some comfort and relief. I won’t go into the grueling details, but it was very scary and stressful for us because of his MCAD, so we had to check his blood sugar levels and hope that they weren’t so low that we would have to go to the ER. Luckily, they were always high enough–thanks to the sprite and apple juice that he was drinking all day. He was so thirsty! He drank all day long, and when he ran out of his five or six ounces (in a matter of minutes), he would cry for more. It was a blessing he was so thirsty because he was losing so many fluids and he needed the sugars. He has lost some weight, but hopefully he’ll gain it back soon.

What a weekend! We’re just glad it came on AFTER Halloween so James could dress as a lion and go trick-or-treating! Here are some pictures from the fun day.

We started the day off  by going to lunch with my sister, Kristen, and my mom for my mom’s birthday. Can you believe this woman is 61 years old?

Our first stop trick-or-treating was at Grandma and Grandpa Hegerhorst’s.

Off to see the wizard! James went on a run with grandpa. I love his little tail!

Crouching Lion…

Digging through the goods.

He found a winner!

Off to do some trick-or-treating!

Walking with pa (my dad).

Andrew and I were a MAC and a PC (our stickers are hard to see). You know you’re a nerd–or married to one–when you choose to be computers for Halloween. Also, poor planning had something to do with it.
