Our first stop (May 12th) was Barbados. We went snorkeling with our snorkel gear from Costco (gotta love that place) that morning and then walked around the town that afternoon. It was fun. cruise d3 1

Our second stop (on May 13th) was St. Lucia where we went sea kayaking to a little island (that’s not really an island). It was fun. Here we are getting ready to go.

We went on a walk around the ship almost every night. We liked to stop at the front of the ship where it was completely dark on the deck and look out into the water. On this particular night, I glanced down to see my dress in the air. No one else could see because it was dark, but I started laughing because I couldn’t keep it down.

Andrew bought a new hat. He doesn’t ever wear hats. He almost wore it the next day but then took it off and said “I don’t want to get it dirty and sweaty”…oh I love that man. I laughed.

Andrew and I went to the party on the deck that night. We danced with all of the drunks (near not with); it was really entertaining. The best thing about the party was the cool display of desserts and fruit. My favorite was the watermelon sailboat.

Caribbean Cruise: Day 2

Monday was our only day at sea. We slept in until 10am. It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to do that! It could have been because we hadn’t slept in almost two days, or that we didn’t have James, or that there were no windows and it was completely dark. I think it was all three. I can’t remember the last time I slept so well. I slept so well every night. The rocking motion of the ship probably helped too. Anyways, It was a fun day cruising. We took the time to lay out, eat, explore the ship, and eat some more. It was so relaxing.

Caribbean Cruise: Day 1

We were set to fly standby to San Juan Sunday morning (as an alternate to our confirmed flights). All four of us were stand-by for an 8:30 flight; Andrew and I were standby for the 9:40 flight, which his parents were confirmed for, and Andrew and I were confirmed for an 11:00 flight–which we REALLY didn’t want to wait for. So the wishing and hoping began around 8am (technically it began about 16 hours earlier). Andrew and I actually made it on the first flight for about two minutes but while we were finding our seats the people had arrived to claim them and we were kicked off. So we waited for the 9:40 flight and made it on standby. It was so nice to be officially on our way. And it was nice that all four of us were on the same flight.

Boarding the cruise ship–finally!!!

Doing pretty good considering I only slept about three hours the night before we left because I was so nervous about leaving James. I think at this point I was going on four hours of sleep in two days.

Movies under the stars. All day and night they had movies playing on the top deck.

We went out on the deck after the movie to watch us leave the bay around 11pm. I was able to sleep through most of the movie, giving me the extra energy I needed to stay up a little longer. Then it was time for bed.

For our graduation celebration we went on a cruise with Andrew’s parents. They helped us pay for part of it and came with us as their gift–so nice! It was nice to be kid-free for eight days! I was sad leading up to leaving because I knew I was going to miss James, and saying goodbye was really hard, but I didn’t let myself think about him too much while we were gone. I wanted to fully enjoy the experience.  I appreciated the one-on-one time with Andrew that we rarely get anymore and eating without feeding another mouth…small luxuries…

Here we are at the airport before leaving on May 9th:

We jokingly called our vacation: “The good, the bad, and the ugly.” The “good” was the cruise itself; the “bad” was missing our flight out of Atlanta to San Juan; and the “ugly” was spending the night in the Atlanta airport. This is us after finding out the bad news:

Andrew and I tried to make the most of it; we bought some Sudoku books and a Nintendo DS for entertainment out of a vending machine–a little splurge but it was our vacation and we were missing our night in Puerto Rico.

The rest of the night was spent trying to nap here and there (unsuccessfully due to the T.V.s blaring CNN all night long and the cleaners vacuuming) and keep ourselves busy. Around 2am some lady kept paging a man named Steve (at a gate number near us) every two minutes for what seemed like an hour. We started laughing because we were completely alone in that area of the airport. Around four or five in the morning, Andrew gave me a cute wrapped box and said “Happy Mother’s Day.” I knew it was a box of chocolates and was so excited to have one as a way of making up for the horrible night we had had. To top it all off, I opened it up to find this:

mother's day

It was perfect.

Just Jumpin’

For Krista’s birthday earlier this month we went as a family to a place called Jump On It. I’d never been there before. For those of you not familiar with it, it’s basically just a bunch of trampolines for adults and teens and blown up slides and things for kids. James LOVED it; I think Andrew did too… I did until I realized that jumping on a trampoline is not as much fun after having a baby. I won’t elaborate, but I’m sure many of you can imagine…or know exactly what I mean. ;)
